BP Oil - Bush & Company

For years now we have heard how the Republicans, under the leadership of Bush were going to fix everything in the world and build democracies through waging war. I am not one of those conspiracy folks but I do take exception to the way the USA handled the attack on New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania on 9/11/01. This was not an act of war but an act of terrorists. We, as a country, created the leader of the pack that attacked us when we propped him up as a poster boy to save Afghanistan from invasion by the Soviet Union. Now here is where I am confused. If we got rid of the Soviets why did we abandon Afghanistan. If we had been interested in Peace and stability in the region we should have sent a team to help them set up a democracy and stable economy.
As a population, we were lied to by a Vice President that wanted to eliminate Sadam Hussein because during the Gulf War, President Bush (the first) would not allow US Troops to follow him back into the city of Bagdad. The reason? He said it would cause too much collateral damage.
Now I did not agree with invading Iraq but I was totally dismayed by the fact that the Bush administration was not prepared to help set up a government to replace the one they dismantled. I thought it was short sighted to fire all the army that had worked for Sadam. They wound up starting a civil war. Most people join the Army to feed their family. They are not always as loyal to fearless leader as it might appear. It is a job and they get to push people around and carry a gun.
Now I do not know how you feel about war but did it not dawn on you that something was very wrong when we dropped 50 bombs and Sadam was still loose? We are supposed to have the finest Military money can buy. Oh wait! I forgot. They had to fire all the translators because some of them were gay...? Now if I was a conspiracy type person it is here I would make the case for the concept that this was just an excuse to transfer money from the middle and working class to the wealthy like Hallburton, Big Oil, and God only knows how many construction contractors.
We kept being told that the President needed freedom to hunt down the terrorists so we should allow for the Patriot Act. Let him and his buddies snoop into all our email and pick on everyone that even resembles one of the guys who drove the plains as suicide pilots. The republicans sold America down the river by allowing outsourcing with no plan for retraining all the millions of people in America that were replaced by near slave labor in other countries. We were told we should give tax breaks to the wealthy because they generated jobs for Americans. We were told that the air quality in NYC was AOK until the first responders started getting sick and dying. Is it just me or is there something wrong with spending so much money on the EPA and they could not recommend face masks for first responders.
How about Katrina? In over-reaction to 9/11/1 we had to create a homeland security. For some reason they felt that FEMA should be in that group. Well the first thing that Tom Ridge did as the first king of DHS was to pull as much money as he could from FEMA to build himself a real cushy office. The guy Bush put in charge may not have been the best for the job but political appointments are usually not really running the show anyway. FEMA & EPA were a joke under Bush. Republicans did not like having to follow any rules when doing business. No sir, just give them your money for investment and let them go. The market would regulate itself. You recall it was their answer to fixing the Social Security system??? Good thing we didn't depend on that system. You remember how the Republicans are always beating up on the Unions. Ask GM about how the unions pitched in to help save that company.
BP should have been required to provide a plan of action in case of emergency. Oh I keep forgetting. Business, especially OIL is supposed to self-regulate. Katrina was not enough. It was the Democratic Female Governor's fault for not calling and requesting help from the Federal Government???
Now it is a little late.
I have yet to hear President Obama or any other member of his administration blame the Republican Governor of Louisiana. They were there on day one. They gave BP benefit of the doubt when they said they would fix it. First we heard from the CEOs of Tobacco that there was no proof that smoking cigarettes caused lung cancer. Next the CEOs from Detroit came to beg for a bail out with private jets. Now these were the same folks that said the reason GM was failing was because of the Unions and retired people. Let's not discuss what they paid the CEO and top executives???
BP will be paying for this for another 10 years.
Let's resolve to do offshore drilling safely. Plan ahead.
Love & Peace, Deborah
